Default Leveling A Pet To Dire Using Wurms

Well I don't know if this works regularly but it worked for me. I capped a Jahai-Rat one day and I i thought id use the method of letting it kill me so level it to a Dire. I leveled it once from 5-6 and I it became very annoying and boring lol. So i thought id just give up and just level it into a hearty. I didn't care whether it transformed into a aggressive or playful anyways. So i continued on my quests (my quests at that time were in the sulfurous wastes). I rode the wurms and i realized that my pet dies instantly when i ride one. So i continued on and since pet gains exp even when dead, my pet leveled. In one day, I managed to level my pet to 20 and when i /petname reset it, my rat was a Dire. I guess technically, my pet did do more damage than damage taken because I leveled him to 6 while dealing only damage. Then i continued in with the wurms and leveled him to 20. I don't know if this works all the time but did anyone else do a similar thing?

Erm yes I think to make it work you must have trained him to make it dire at least a few levels. I tried wurms leveling too, with a level 5-6 pet trained in a way that would have made him hearty. At level 11 (trained with wurms), he was playfull. If you say it works the other way too, it would be really interesting to test how many levels you need to train him before you power-level him with wurms to make him dire.

This could be a bug that was fixed, but my ranger hero's pet sometimes got its own wurm. Recently he only dies when we enter wurms but a while back when we entered them, he got in one too. He never used any skills, he just attacked with us.

^ Actually your pet don't (unless it's been fixed) die when you enter in a wurm in Gates of Desolation mission, but do in explorable areas. I assume the OP is refering to the 2nd case.
